About the Navy Quilt Challenge Exhibits
Overview
Selected quilt exhibits for the Thread Tails and Vapor Trails quilt challenge will begin traveling in January 2011, and will continue to travel until the end of December 2011.
Several exhibits will be available, and can be displayed at quilt guilds, textile and art exhibits and shows, shops, museums, libraries, and military related events. Award winners will be evenly distributed between the exhibits. Traveling quilts will be randomly assigned to trunks.
If you are with a military related event or museum, please contact the curator for pricing and other details.
Trunk Contents
Each trunk will contain the quilts, placards (information signs) for every quilt, large signs or banners announcing the display, inventory lists, tie wraps for sealing trunks during shipping, packing/unpacking instructions, and suggested layouts. All quilts will have a 4” finished sleeve. The displays can be quickly hung and are very self contained. More detailed descriptions of each quilt are on the back of each placard and will be available on the website if you wish to do a trunk show for a guild or other meeting. Please contact the curator if you have questions.
Reserving Trunks
Priority reservations will be given to military events. After that, trunks are available on a first come, first served basis. We make every attempt to schedule the exhibits with time for ground shipping between shows. Expedited shipping will be required only if it is necessary to honor your request for an exhibit. We will inform you of this prior to putting your exhibit on the calendar and invoicing you.
You are welcomed to request as many trunks as you’d like, but we do advise you to book as early as possible as the calendar fills quickly. Exhibits can be kept for up to 14 days, calendar permitting. If you would like to display longer than that, it will be necessary to pay for two exhibit periods.
In addition to paying the exhibit fee, your organization is responsible for the cost of shipping to the next location. You will also be responsible for paying for any missing or damaged items. Be sure to inventory and inspect the contents of the trunk as soon as it arrives, and again before shipping. Please contact the curator immediately with any concerns.
